New bike

This morning I took the kids to the bike store, and bought a tandem bike, a red Raleigh Companion. I had them put on various accessories-- lights, pump, etc.-- and a connector for a trail-a-bike. I'm going to us this to take the kids to school, so while the trail-a-bike will make this roughly the length of a 737, there's no way around it. And with the weather as warm as it is, and me doing more cycling to work, it seemed high time to act.

I've been talking this up for a few months, mainly to overcome my children's skepticism. I'd tried one a few months ago, and my daughter hated it; this time, the first time we circled the parking lot she disliked it, the second time it was okay, and the third time she thought it was fun.

So next week we're going to start biking to school, and using it on other trips around the neighborhood. I figure that if we use it regularly, assuming the price of gas doesn't drop much, it should pay for itself in two years.
