My last night in London

Monday night, after dinner at that restaurant in St James's Park, I went walking along the south bank of the Thames, before going back to my hotel room to pack. I had taken that route a couple times before, and wanted to get some pictures in the evening.

On Blackfriars Bridge, with St. Paul's in the background. Photo by Sony. Hair borrowed from Kim Jong Il.

I started out in St James's Park, and walked past Whitehall.

Submitted without comment.

Okay, this next picture is a bit fuzzy, but still, it gives a sense of what things look like.

I had never been that big a fan of St. Paul's. Okay, Christopher Wren. London rebuilt after the Great Fire. What's the big deal? But in fact, it really is spectacular.

I think this is beside the OXO building.

One thing I really like about the south bank is that it's basically a promenade, designed for people to walk, sit, and admire the views. It's a kind of public space that we don't have enough of in American cities.

Yet more cool public space. I also like the lights. What was it like, I wonder, to live a century ago and see strings of electric lights like these for the first time? It must have been pretty extraordinary.

One of the dinner barges, or whatever you call them.

I'm not sure what this building is, but it's close to the Embankment Tube station.

The Jubilee bridge-- or one of them, actually-- pedestrian bridges flanking an old bridge by Brunel. it's hard to see, but there are blue lights running along its sides.

Walking along the bridge.

The Houses of Parliament.

The London Eye. I've got to get there one day. As I was watching it, I noticed people taking pictures. The cabins would flash, like fireflies in jars.

Parliament and the embankment, seen from halfway across the bridge.

The London Eye from the northern end of the bridge.

The traffic was fairly steady, even at 11 at night.

As a Northerner living in London I can appreciate your visit. This city, although not my favourite ( Newcastle, Glasgow ) but then I would say that ;-) is amazing. It never fails to enrich, enlighten, entertain, teach me. Most times I leave my flat to either work or nights out, brings a new experience albeit often tiny but often enthralling. Pleased you enjoyed what I am still experiencing and probably will for many many years to come! My main delight is people; in this town, OK you may have to work harder to engage people, but give shit you get shit. Generally people are fine. Often, some are genually a pleasure to meet, :- being such a large place you can meet people which you would find difficult to meet and interact with back home ( Co. Durham, Newcastle )
Howay London!

U'd better learn how to make decent pictures !!!! These are crap !!
