I went for a long ride today, feeling the need to be outside after a nice relaxing Sunday indoors. I just figured I would ride an hour or so up the Cam, and then come back. That took me though places we have been before, but also a few new places.
I kept thinking the sun would break through, it never did, but it is not raining, so I can't complain. And Alex was not there to take a photo, so I can't prove it, but I was not wearing my big black fleece jacket. I had on my TNT hoodie!
If you look closely, you can see the rabbit in the center of this photo.
Waiting for a train to cross at Waterbeach. I left the Cam for a while, following cycle route signs, and not really too concerned about where I went.
I love the weather vane shaped like an arrow. This is St. John's Church in Waterbeach.
I came back to the Cam at the Bottisham Sluice.
I was about ready to turn around, since I had been going for more than an hour, but I went a little way along a footpath. There was a lovely view of this flower farm.
This is the road through Waterbeach. Some of the cycle routes are really well marked, but sometimes you just have to have faith. This was certainly one of the later sections of road.
I rode back along the Cam for a while, then took a right when National Cycle Route 11 spilt into two options to return to Cambridge. Since I had seen the view along the river, I took the one that said Cambridge 2 via Milton.
After a few minutes on a regular road, the signs pointed directly left into the woods, so I followed, and found myself in Milton Country Park. It was beautiful, and totally unexpected.
One does have to watch for the cycle path signs. That is one on the pole at this crossroads.
I stopped to take a look at this war memorial. You can read more about it here.
Still following the signs. I really had no idea where I was, but I knew the Cam had to be off to my left somewhere, and so I was still basically headed for Cambridge.
And, indeed, I came out of the park and followed the cycle route signs back into Cambridge.
The sun never came out, but these flowers blooming along the river right near our street are a sign that spring is really here.
The ride took me about 2 and a half hours, I never went very fast, and I kept stopping to look at things. But a nice afternoon's exercise, I think.
We had watched some cycling tricks on my friend's laptop. We were amazed the way they done the deathlike tricks. One of our guy friends tried it but unluckily he got body pains because of it.
