I still have one more day of work, finishing off a few things, and getting everything ready to hand over to my wonderful colleagues who are taking over my classes and my role as department head. But since yesterday was the last day I would see students, I feel like my sabbatical has started. It is a weird feeling, but a good one.
I looked up sabbatical, "any extended period of leave from one'scustomary work, esp. for rest, to acquire new skills ortraining, etc."
Not a bad definition. And at a school where lifelong learning is a goal, it is wonderful to have this opportunity to do a little learning of my own.
Alex left for Cambridge, England, this evening. I will follow him there on the 19th. Before then I have some things to do here, not the least of which is being around for my son's birthday on the 17th. But I also hope to start reading, walking, and thinking. Not that I don't do those things all the time, but I want to make sure I am doing them more while I am not working.
I also plan to be more reflective about what I do, what I learn, and what I read. So I'll be blogging again.
